On November 22, 2021 local time, the third section of the Serbian section of the Hungarian-Serbian railway project (Novi Sad to Subotica) was held in Novi Sad, the second largest city in Serbia. Serbian President Vucic, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economy Sialdo, Serbian Minister of Transport Momilovich, and Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo attended the ceremony. Ning Jizhe, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, delivered a speech by video.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, CRRC Changke Co., Ltd. took the "Fuxing" EMU as the prototype, and the EMU model designed for the Hungarian-Serbian railway project that meets European standards and local line requirements was unveiled and was well received. After listening to the Chinese representative's introduction of the technical characteristics of the EMU and the current work progress of the Sino-Serbian team in the EMU cooperation, Vucic and Momilovich greatly appreciated the EMU model and expressed their strong interest in future cooperation.
The Hungarian-Serbian railway is a flagship project of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries, an important project of the European Transport Corridor and the China-Europe Land and Sea Express Line, and a major project for China to jointly build the "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative and the European development strategy. The total length of the line is 346.2 kilometers, including 159.4 kilometers in Hungary and 186.8 kilometers in Serbia. The whole line adopts standard gauge. The Serbian section has a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour and is divided into three sections. The first and second sections are under construction and will be opened for operation in early 2022; the third section is 108 kilometers long and is the longer of the three sections. It is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.
